New Resume Requirements

Revisiting the resume model – how it is created, delivered and maintained will make the bigger difference in regards to uncertainty about your future. However, if you play the field right, and by the rules, your potential to land a good job will give you competitive advantage over other applicants.

A well written resume is without a doubt the most vital component in your job seeking arsenal. The vast majority of job applicants do not realize that demand for accurate, timely and secure information from medium to large corporations destroy your chances for an interview.

Human resource managers and software developers work together now to scan your resume for specific keywords in relation to current job requirements. If you have everything right without mistakes your chances for an interview improves. If not, your resume will be tossed in the trash.

To succeed, characteristics of resume accuracy will be increasingly critical. A simple typo mistake can have significant implications. A typo is not an irrecoverable mistake in a resume, but it does make it more difficult to get an interview, which is the primary objective of a resume.

For example, if you are applying for a specific, rare-skilled position and your qualifications or experiences are stellar, and the position does not require writing skills, it can be overcome. However, for the majority of applicants, a typo in most cases is a mistake that cannot be overcome, especially for front-line management positions and above.

A resume is clearly designated to be a carefully planned and well laid-out document that showcases your best. If your resume mistakenly includes a typo, it is an indication of failure to proofread materials prior to sending out, as well as an indication of producing sloppy or unfinished work.

Most job positions today have stringent time constraints for meeting deadlines, and if a typo is present in a document that was produced on your own time with no deadline pressures and contains mistakes, it indicates to a potential employer that under pressure most of your documents will have mistakes.

A resume with a typo will also show to an employer that communication by email with subordinates, peers, and upper management will also be riddled with mistakes because of failure to proofread and take the time to conduct a spell check.

However, business models today have changed. Many managers have difficulty when it comes to giving negative feedback. Any person who accepts a management position must understand that acceptance of the position also requires tough choices must be made from time to time and is accountable for both tangibles and intangibles.

A good manager understands this from a coaching perspective, which requires giving both, positive and negative feedback in order to build a strong team. A management position is not a popularity contest. It is a position where you must earn trust and respect from your subordinates.

Earning and building trust involves being firm, fair, and consistent. A well respected manager will treat everyone the same way without showing favoritism. Whereas being firm will establish with the subordinates that protocols, company policies, and directives will be followed and enforced without question. It also includes zero tolerance for failure to meet deadlines.

Most people know how good business managers should perform. They have great respect for those who know how to lead and coach a team. A good manager understands that you do not have to belittle, yell, or threaten during counseling sessions. In most cases, the point can be made in a firm even-tone voice.

A manager understands you cannot force a person to think the way they do or even make them do something they do not want to do. Realistically, a good manager will give someone options and communicate the repercussions for failure to comply or modify behavior.

Side Jobs You Can Start Today

  • Lawn Services – Do you have a mower or weed-eater? Do you work Monday through Friday? Well, why not do some lawn services over the weekends? The pay varies but you certainly could be able to make a decent amount of extra income for the month by providing these services. As far as I know, the Earth is always going to have grass that grows meaning there will always be a need for somebody to cut said grass. The biggest issue I see with this income stream would be transportation. You’ll need to haul your mower, edger, weed-eater and anything else to the job site and that would be very difficult to do in a Prius! If you want to preformed lawn services as a side job or even a primary job, you’ll need some type of truck.
  • Take Surveys – This is probably one of the easiest ways you could make some side money. There are several websites that will legitimately pay you for taking surveys. I have made a review specifically over online surveys just because it truly is a fascinating way to make some extra money. You can definitely legitimately and legally make money from taking online surveys but you won’t be able to make any decent amount of income from this stream. Additionally, the “higher paying” surveys take about 40 minutes to complete.
  • Do Car Ads – If you have a vehicle you drive regularly, this could be a great way to make some extra side money. Plenty of websites will pay you a monthly amount to get a specific ad decal on your vehicle to the company is being marketed every time you get in your car and drive somewhere. Some companies don’t really pay much of anything and other companies pay a decent amount. However, you also won’t be able to make a livable income from this stream. This stream is so easy to do and requires little to no work so even if that puts an extra $5 in your pocket each month, can you really complain?

IT Search Firm

You may be wondering what an IT search firm is. Ultimately, this is a firm that will help you conduct an IT search. It is just like an IT recruiting company – only they don’t like to use the word “recruiter” because it can often have a negative connotation. Regardless of whether they are searching for you or recruiting for you, it can help you find a job and gain employment.

When you begin working with such a firm, they want to see your resume. This means that you need to make sure you have the most up-to-date version including all education and experience. If they like what they see, they will contact you for preliminary interview. This is done so that they can get to know who you are, what your work ethic is like, and what your personality is like.

The IT search firm that is working with you wants to make sure they find the best fit for the company that they are also working with. More and more companies are focusing on their work environment and finding the right fit of people because it will reduce the total turnover. This means that your resume may be just what a company wants but your personality would clash, therefore causing you not to get the job. This is nothing personal and in the end, you want to make sure that you find a company where your personality matches otherwise you will not be happy.

If your resume is ideal for the job and your personality is a good match, you will then be sent over to the actual IT company for a final interview. In most instances, once you get to the final interview, your outlook is very good for getting the job. This is because the IT companies trust the IT search firms in their ability to find the right people for them. The final interview is a matter of formality.

When you go in for your final interview, you want to have a copy of your resume and you want to be ready to wow them. It’s usually a done deal, but you don’t want to set off any alarms. The IT search firm will even go over some questions that may be asked of you to ensure that you know how to answer them to the best of your ability and so that the company will feel comfortable with making the final hiring decision.

How To Say “No” To Job Interviewer

  1. What if you’re asked about specific job skills or work experience which you don’t have? Rather than saying “No, I don’t have those skill sets,” you can say “Those are skill sets that I have been meaning to learn.” Be prepared to talk about those skill sets which you lack. Don’t dwell on the fact that you don’t have those skill sets, but you should at least address the question in a positive manner. You might say, “While I don’t have direct experience in this area, I did have a chance to cover for a co-worker who handled that area, and this is something would like to learn how to do well.” Or you can tell them what you do know about the area, even if you don’t have direct experience: “I’ve heard a lot about this new language protocol, and it’s catching rapidly among companies in the resources industry. This is something I’d love to learn how to do.” No one can be expected to have all of the skill requirements set out in the job description, so don’t feel bad. The fact that you were invited for the interview means they are interested in what you have to offer.
  2. Did you enjoy working for your previous company/boss? Even if your answer is a resounding “No,” now is not the time to vent about how awful your boss was, or how your former company is destined to go bankrupt due to mismanagement. Take the high road, and try to say something redeeming. “My former boss was wonderfully skilled at what he did,” or “My old firm was renown in the industry for running powerful marketing campaigns.” If you say something negative, you might appear spiteful or bitter, and that is not the impression you’d like to leave.
  3. What if you were asked to handle job responsibilities not mentioned in the advertised job position? If these responsibilities aren’t what you expected from the job, you want to think about a benign way of saying that you’re not interested. You might say, “Well, I really think my talents are better focused on doing X, Y, Z.” Or you can say, “I’m not sure if I have the experience or skills to perform that particular task; I’m not even sure I’d be any good doing that.” At the very least, you might tell them that you’d consider it. If the interviewer is astute, she can tell by your body language that you aren’t particularly receptive to taking that job responsibility, and that’s the point that you want to get across.
  4. What if you were asked whether you’d take a pay cut for the job? You might be tempted to tell them where they should go, but restrain yourself, and politely mention that one of the primary reasons for looking elsewhere is for greater remuneration. You may even add that you have larger household expenditures. But if the job is attractive enough, you might say that you’d consider it. For example, if the position carried less responsibilities, or allowed you to work from home one or two days a week, then a pay cut might be worth the exchange, as long as you were not financially constrained.
  5. Are you willing to work weekends or evenings? If you’re unable to work weekends or evenings due to family commitments, just tell them honestly. If they have families, they will understand. If it’s an occasional event, such as finishing off a project, or closing a deal, then you’d have to say “Yes” in order to be viewed as a team player. In general, the more senior the role, the more willing you’d have to be to work outside of 9-to-5 hours.

Avoid Getting Fired

Set Your Job Description

Your job description should be according to your strengths. Before you apply for a job, make sure your resume clearly describes your strengths. If you don’t, your employer may find out that your skills and strengths don’t match the requirements of the job you have been selected for. As a result, you may be fired or suspended.

Know The priorities of Your Boss

Your job is not to respond to marginal requests or useless emails. As a matter of fact, even if the email comes from your boss, you should ask if they want to leave the important tasks to do this task instead. In short, you should focus on the priorities of your employer.

Cultivate relationships

You don’t need to try hard and become the most competent employee. Instead, what you need to do is cultivate relationships. In fact, if our boss and the colleagues like you, chances are that you will not be fired even if you are not that competent.

Know What Your Boss Likes

Does your boss like it when you ask them questions? Does he or she like to know your opinion about the job? How does he or she like to communicate with you? What medium does he or she like? It may be phone or email for instance. You should find out the answers to these questions and act accordingly.

Get feedback

You should get feedback from your customers, colleagues and your boss, of course. This will help you make your performance a lot better. This will be a sort of informal evaluation of your work. And you will be able to improve yourself.

When you make a mistake, apologize right away without any protected self-flagellation. What you need to do is reassure everyone that it is your responsibility to correct your mistakes.

Deal with your enemies

First of all, you should go out for dinner together to share common interests. But if you don’t find anything common, you should let everyone know that the issues between you two can’t be resolved.

A candidate should be prepared for expanding his technical skills. For example, if you have learnt Oracle 11g version, then you should also get knowledge of other versions including, Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g and Oracle 12c. Dental Assistant Jobs

Having the proper training prior to embarking on a career such as this is essential. Courses such as Dental Assisting, Radiology, X-rays, Instrument Setup and Sedation are just a few of the basics you must master in order to fill all the requirements of the job. These courses are available at many Junior/Community Colleges, Colleges/Universities and accredited Technical Training Schools.

Having this training and becoming a registered assistant will open doors that lead to well paying jobs. You will be able to put all the skills learned to practical use, which will be appreciated by both the dentist and the patient receiving the treatment. In addition, knowing that you have established a career that is in demand is very self-satisfying.

Once you have completed your training and are certified you are ready to work, with dentists, taking care of a patient’s dental needs. This could be in a number of different locations. It might be in a dentist’s office, a laboratory, a prison, or with lower income populations in places such as Head Start or Migrant Programs.

Your job could cover one or several areas in a dental care environment. If working side by side with a dentist, your duty is to calm a nervous patient, lay out the correct instruments, take x-rays, operate any necessary equipment and any other duties required. In small offices, you might be expected to handle such things as setting up appointments or answering the phone when the receptionist is at lunch.

Some offices also have an adjoining laboratory. If this is the case, you may be expected to help make molds of teeth for bridges, caps and other work. This is good on-the-job training, which will work well if you decide to take more classes for advancement to a higher paying job.

Advantages to Working With Recruiters

Speed up the Process

You probably already know that it can take a while to find a job. Whether it’s your own experience or listening to people who have been out of work for a year or two, you know it’s not easy to find work in today’s day and age. This means that if you need a job, you need to work with someone who has access to more jobs than you do – and recruiters fit the bill.

Many companies have started hiring recruiters to do the hiring for them. They can’t be bothered looking through thousands of resumes. It’s just too time consuming for them. The benefit to working with a recruiter is that they know about all the companies that are hiring because they were hired by these companies in order to find qualified individuals.

Help You Clean Up Your Act

Recruiters can help you to clean up your act and discover why you haven’t gotten a job yet. Maybe you are over-qualified or under-qualified for the positions you are applying to. Maybe your resume is poorly written. Maybe you need some advanced training. Whatever the problem is, your recruiter is going to look at you and your resume, discover the problems, and help you fix them. This will ensure you are ready to go and all polished up when a job comes your way.

Key to Getting the Job You Want

  1. Make your goals clear. If you’re content in your current position and don’t want further responsibility, it’s all right to say so. On the other hand, if you want something more, make sure that your employer knows it! There’s no need to be rude; simply putting the information out there is more than enough. For example, you might say, “I would eventually like to be a construction foreman, and I’d like the opportunity to develop leadership skills within my current position.” If your current employer doesn’t know that you want to move up, you may miss out on valuable opportunities. When you’re looking to move to a new company, share why you’re interested in them: “I love your company’s vision, and all of my interactions with the company have shown that your culture would be a great fit for me.” Your employer can’t read your mind. By clearly sharing exactly what is that you want, you’ll discover that they’re more likely to give it to you.
  2. Follow the application process. Whether you’re hoping to move up from within or you’re looking for a new job, it’s important to follow the described application process to the letter. Take a good look at even the most unusual or obscure instructions in the application process. Hiring managers at a new company take note of the details: if they tell you to send your information by email, do so. If they ask for a hard copy of your resume, it’s important to provide it. When you pay attention to the details of the application, you show that you’re genuinely interested in a specific job, not just following the same procedure for every application you put in–and you prove that you’ll give that same attention to detail in your everyday job performance.
  3. Practice what you want to say. When you approach your boss about your interest in a new position or promotion, practice it first! Take the time to think through exactly what you want to say and remove filler from the statement. You’ll find that this makes you appear more confident, which in turn increases your employer’s confidence in you.
  4. Be clear and positive about why you want the new position. It’s not that you feel you’re being under-utilized in your current position; instead, it’s that you think that you can bring more valuable skills and abilities to the table. You aren’t unhappy in your current job; rather, you think that a new job will be a great fit for you. When you’re positive about this shift in your employment status, you’ll discover that your attitude is more likely to rub off on the people in charge of putting you in a new position.
  5. Remember that it’s okay to ask for the changes you want. You aren’t being ungrateful for your current job, nor are you leaving your current team in the lurch. Instead, you’re making a career move that’s best for you and your family–and you can do it without guilt! Drop the guilt from your attitude before you make your desires clear. It’s only holding you back and preventing you from asking for the job you really want.

Make Temporary Jobs Look Good On Your Resume

Determine whether to put jobs together or not?

You can do a lot of freelance work that involves short term employments which can be project or duration based. If all of the work you have done is the same then you are better off grouping it all together as a single experience. But when you have short term employment where you interacted with top players of your industry of had an important job for a project, then mention them separately.

Define employment dates

Anything that lasted over a month must be mentioned with dates. If you decide to mention different freelance projects separately, then mention them by the dates that you worked on them. Freelancing allows people to work on different projects simultaneously. Suppose you are a writer and have been working for five different clients on content writing jobs for six months, it would be better to group them all together as a single period and then give details of the projects that you wrote for.

Market yourself

Instead of just writing “Done freelancing for XYZ on 2 projects”, market yourself as a brand. You can make a brand of yourself and use it to indicate freelance work. This is a much more professional way of doing things and it will look great on your resume. Branding yourself will market you as an expert in the field as a professional having his/her own business.

Highlight success and achievement

It doesn’t matter if you had worked as a freelancer for 6 months or 2 years, you must highlight your successes and achievements during that period. If there are any achievements during your work as a freelancer, you must mention them along with other details. Achievements highlight your competence and authority over your industry and will be able to impress the recruiters.
